For female athletes to maximize their potential, they need to learn what style of motivation works best for them. This identification and mindfulness will help them learn how to process criticism and praise. In turn, they will develop autonomy over their athletic experience and they will feel more confident communicating their needs to coaches, teammates and parents.
Discovering your Motivation Style
Welcome to the first installment of our online modules. We're pleased to offer you a free preview of how our monthly modules can be utilized and we hope that you will be encouraged to subscribe to our content.
Session 1: External Motivators
This first session is a discussion and activity designed to help players learn about how the people around us affect our motivation. Players focus on how to communicate how they prefer to process critique from coaches, teammates and family.
Session 2: Motivation Mottos
This activity continues the discussion on external motivators. Players learn about how mottos, or quotes can help motivate players and get the opportunity to create their own motto.
Session 3: Internal Motivation
This session introduces Internal Motivation concepts, specifically goal setting. Players learn to set S.M.A.R.T. Goals in our whole player model.
Session 4: Review and Reflect
This is the final session in this module. Players reflect on takeaways and how these mental skills play a role in life after sport. They will create bag tags with their motivation motto.
